Thousands of U.S. military retirees live overseas — and in our experience they’re some of the most underserved veterans when it comes to CRSC. No county service officer down the road. No VSO office on post. Often nobody has ever told them CRSC exists, or they assume that living abroad disqualifies them. It doesn’t.
Why overseas retirees miss out on CRSC
- No local help. Stateside retirees can walk into a VSO or county veterans office. Overseas, a volunteer Retiree Activities Office — if there’s one within driving distance — is often the only option.
- Nobody told them. CRSC is a DoD program, not a VA one, and it isn’t automatic. You must apply to your branch of service — many retirees have never heard of it.
- They assume location matters. It doesn’t. CRSC is paid through your retired pay account. If DFAS can pay you where you live, DFAS can pay you CRSC where you live.
- Records feel out of reach. Pulling service records from another time zone feels harder than it is. Most of it is online — and walking you through exactly which records to pull is a core part of what we do.
The whole process is paper. No in-person anything.
Your branch’s CRSC board decides your claim off the documents in your packet — there is no in-person exam or interview. That means a retiree in the Philippines has exactly the same shot as a retiree in San Antonio. The packet is everything. That’s why we build it right.
The Soto decision changed the math
In June 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in Soto v. United States that the 6-year cap that had been used to limit CRSC backpay was improper. If you were eligible for CRSC years ago and never applied — which describes a lot of overseas retirees — the retroactive pay at stake may be substantially larger than it would have been under the old rules. Every packet we prepare includes preservation language to protect our clients’ retroactive claims.
How it works from anywhere
- Free 15-minute review. Phone, WhatsApp, or video — we work around your time zone. We give you a straight, vet-to-vet read on whether CRSC looks like a fit.
- Records roadmap. We tell you exactly which records to pull and how to get them from overseas — DS Logon, milConnect, iPERMS for Army, and the right phone numbers when a login isn’t possible.
- We build the packet. Causation narrative, DD Form 2860, evidence organization — board-ready.
- You submit, the board decides. We prepare everything for submission and walk you through exactly how to send it from where you live.
Common overseas questions
| Question | Straight answer |
|---|---|
| Can CRSC be paid to a foreign bank account or while I live abroad? | CRSC rides on your DFAS retired-pay account. If your retired pay reaches you overseas today, approved CRSC is paid through that same account. |
| Do I have to come back to the U.S. to file? | No. The claim is a paper submission to your branch’s CRSC board. No in-person appearance exists in the process. |
| How do I get my records from overseas? | Most records are available online through DS Logon / milConnect (and iPERMS for Army). We walk clients through it step by step, including the no-login phone options. |
| Is my VA rating enough? | A VA rating is the starting point — CRSC requires showing the disability is combat-related under your branch board’s criteria. That causation narrative is the heart of the packet. |
| What does it cost? | A flat fee, quoted up front, never a percentage of your backpay. Start with the free review — if CRSC isn’t a fit, we’ll tell you. |
