CRSC Pay Chart 2026: monthly rates by percentage

Every 2026 CRSC monthly amount from 10% to 100%, alone and with dependents, straight from the official rate table DFAS uses. Then the caps that decide whether the scenario lands at the chart amount or below it, so you are not planning around a figure that never arrives. Your VA compensation is never touched; CRSC is paid on top of it.

How to read this page in 20 seconds. The chart gives the value of your combat-related percentage (not your total VA rating). CRSC then pays the lesser of that chart value and the retired pay you waived. Twenty-year retirees usually receive the chart amount. Chapter 61 medical retirees with under 20 years are usually capped below it. See which one you are ↓

Why your CRSC check can be lower than the chart

The chart is step one of a two-number formula. DFAS looks up the chart value for your combat-related percentage, then compares it with the retired pay you gave up (waived) to receive VA compensation. You get the smaller number. Which retiree you are decides how hard that cap bites.

20-year (regular) retiree

Retired pay is large, so the waiver is large and the cap rarely binds. A 70% combat-related rating, alone, pays the full chart value:

$1,808.45 chart amount

Chapter 61 medical retiree, under 20 years

The cap is the retired pay you would have earned for years of service alone (2.5% of base pay per year, 2.0% under BRS), less any retired pay still paid after the VA waiver. Eight years at E-6 comes to roughly $900 a month (high-3 estimated from the 2026 table), so a 90% combat-related rating pays at most:

~$900 not $2,362.30

That second case is where most of the disappointment around a "CRSC pay chart" comes from. It also points to the real lever: for a capped retiree, pushing the percentage higher adds nothing, while a retiree sitting under the cap gains from every combat-related condition that gets approved. The full calculation with worked examples and the Chapter 61 CRSC guide go deeper.

Enter your combat-related rating, dependents, retirement type, gross retired pay and years of service. The calculator applies the caps, shows CRSC vs. CRDP after tax, and builds a back-pay scenario month by month at the rate that was in effect at the time.

Combat-related percentage is not your VA rating

Your VA rating combines every service-connected condition. CRSC only counts the conditions your branch approves as combat-related (armed conflict, hazardous service, instrumentality of war, or training that simulates war), then combines just those using the VA's combined-rating table. A veteran rated 100% by the VA with 70% of it approved as combat-related reads the 70% row of this chart. That is why two retirees with identical VA ratings can have very different CRSC checks, and why the packet that proves each condition is combat-related matters more than the chart. Start with the eligibility guide or the 30-second qualifying quiz.

Back pay is not "chart amount × months"

After the Supreme Court's Soto decision removed the six-year cap, retroactive awards now reach back to the date you first became eligible. DFAS pays each past month at the rate in effect that month, so a multi-year award uses the 2025, 2024, and earlier charts, not today's. The CRSC back pay timeline explains how far back an award reaches and when it arrives; the back-pay estimate guide shows the dollar math.

Earlier years step down by each December's COLA: 2.5% (Dec 2024), 3.2% (Dec 2023), 8.7% (Dec 2022), 5.9% (Dec 2021). The 2027 chart takes effect December 1, 2026; see the 2027 rate projection.

CRSC or CRDP: the chart looks the same, the check does not

If you have 20 years and a 50%+ VA rating you can receive CRDP instead of CRSC, and you choose once a year during the January open season. CRDP restores taxable retired pay; CRSC is tax-free and can pay on ratings below 50%. At the same dollar amount, CRSC usually leaves more in your account. The CRSC vs. CRDP comparison walks through the break-even, and the calculator runs both for your numbers.

What it costs to get from the chart to the check

The chart is free. Getting your branch to approve every combat-related condition, with the records and statements that survive a board, is the work. Flat fees, quoted before you commit, never a percentage of your back pay.

Common questions about the CRSC pay chart

Is there an official CRSC pay chart for 2026?

Not a separate one. CRSC uses the VA disability compensation rate table (the rates effective December 1, 2025 for 2026) to value your combat-related percentage, then caps the result at the retired pay you waived. The chart above is that VA table, labeled for CRSC use, with the cap explained beneath it.

How much is 100% CRSC pay in 2026?

The 2026 chart value for a 100% combat-related rating is $3,938.58 a month for a veteran alone, $4,158.17 with a spouse, and $4,318.99 with a spouse and one child. Your actual CRSC cannot exceed the retired pay you waived, so a retiree whose waived retired pay is lower receives that lower figure.

How much does 70% CRSC pay per month?

In 2026 the 70% chart value is $1,808.45 alone, $1,961.45 with a spouse, and $2,074.45 with a spouse and one child, subject to the retired-pay cap.

Is CRSC taxable?

No. CRSC is paid by DFAS and is not subject to federal income tax, which is the main reason a CRSC check is often worth more than the same dollar amount of taxable CRDP or retired pay.

Does CRSC pay more for dependents?

Yes, at 30% and above. The VA table adds amounts for a spouse, children, and dependent parents, and CRSC uses the dependent rate that matches your VA award. The cap still applies to the total.

When does the 2027 CRSC pay chart come out?

VA rates change every December 1 by the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment, which is announced in October. The 2027 chart will apply to payments from December 1, 2026 onward. We update this page the day the rates are final.
